The image above shows the 12 year old Vanessa Vandyke. A violinist and honors student that attends Faith Christian Academy in Orlando Florida is being threatened for wearing her natural hair. Crazy right? The young girl claims she was initially being teased for her natural hair but shortly after the school demanded that she cut and shape her hair, and even gave her a week to make the decision. The school's handbook states that the hair must be a natural color and must not be a distraction, which seems to me is not a problem for Vanessa unless the teasing is what the school considers a "distraction". Vanessa's hair has been the same all year long but it only became a problem after students tormented her about her hair. Vanessa's mom is fighting very hard against the school's decision, so please just support one of our fellow Brown Gurlz so she can strut her Dope Curlz happily.
